NEW ORLEANS SELECTED AS THE MOST ROMANTIC CITY BY MSNBC
The slow pace and steamy temperatures of New Orleans inevitably elicit romance. Historic Spanish-style architecture, Juliet balconies spilling over with colorful flowers and a heavy Creole influence make the Big Easy one of the country's most exotic destinations. And what better place to stay than Maison DuBois Bed and Breakfast.

Spend your days exploring the painted Victorian mansions in the Garden District, the ornate above ground mausoleums in Lafayette Cemetery and the eclectic boutique and antique shops along Magazine Street. Watch the sun set over the mighty Mississippi at Woldenberg Park. New Orleans is known for its nightlife, so plan to make multiple stops as you make the scene. Hit the music bars on locals' favorite Frenchman's Street.

A HISTORIC SHOPPING EXPERIENCE
With a $7.4 million renovation project finished, the historic, open-air French Market along Decatur Street is ready for a fresh wave of visitors. For over 200 years, the historic French Market has been an enduring symbol of pride and progress for the people of New Orleans. While the Market has existed on the same site since 1791, each new decade and governing flag has brought dramatic changes to the Market and helped to secure its special place in the hearts of the people of New Orleans.

What began as a Native American trading post on the banks of the mighty, muddy Mississippi River on the site chosen for the City by the French, has become a cultural, commercial and entertainment treasure which the Crescent City proudly shares with the world.

Today, America's oldest public market has assumed a leading role in the local economy as well, providing consistently increasing revenues for city government while putting millions of dollars back into the local economy. This historic treasure is just blocks from Maison DuBois, book now and shop ‘'til you drop!

EVER EXPERIENCED A SECOND LINE?
A Second Line is a tradition in brass band parades in New Orleans. The "main line" is the main section of the parade, or the members of the actual club with the parading permit; those who follow the band just to enjoy the music are called the "second line." The second line's style of traditional dance, in which participants walk and sometimes twirl a parasol or handkerchief in the air, is called "second lining." It has been called "the quintessential New Orleans art form —-- a jazz funeral without a body." The dance is an evolved version of an old African dance known as the, "Bambula". Second lines often stroll right by Maison DuBois and is the prefect place to hop right in and experience your own second line.

LEARN THE LINGO:
NEW ORLEANS STYLE
Neutral Ground
When the Americans arrived in New Orleans after the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, Europeans and Creoles who inhabited the French Quarter (then, the entire city of New Orleans) considered them unwelcome interlopers. So the immigrants settled across Canal Street and established what is now the Central Business and Arts District. Canal Street became the “"neutral ground"” in the clash of cultures. Ever since, New Orleans has been a city sans medians. Here, we have only neutral grounds. In case you're wondering, cars parked on the raised neutral grounds mean only two things: nearby parades or a forecast of rain.
