VISIT THE#2 RATED NEIGHBORHOOD IN AMERICA WHERE MAISON DUBOIS CALLS HOME...THE FAUBOURG MARIGNY
Everyone is familiar with the French Quarter but many of you may not be familiar with its wonderful bordering neighbor the Faubourg Marigny. Maison DuBois lies right on the dividing line of these two wonderful neighborhoods. Originally a Creole suburb, Faubourg Marigny is a 200-year-old community. Streets follow a sharp curve in the Mississippi River, providing grand views as one walks, bikes, or drives. Respite for pedestrians can be found in several wide, landscaped avenues and two alleys of oak trees that surround the perimeter of Washington Square, the district's heart and soul. By day, this densely populated neighborhood of brightly painted cottages and shotgun houses beckons residents to its walkable streets, coffeehouses, and boutiques. By night, it is an entertainment destination with a distinctly bohemian vibe. Come home to Maison DuBois and visit the American Planning Associates pick for the #2 Neighborhood in the U.S.

NEW ORLEANS MAKES HISTORY...FUN
The National World War II Museum's expanded new complex, comprised of The Victory Theater, Stage Door Canteen and The American Sector restaurant, is readying for its debut. When the doors flung open on November 6, 2009, the Museum's $60 million newest addition to its $300 million expansion became the most significant attraction to the city's cultural scene since Hurricane Katrina.

Tom Hanks makes History
The theater features actor Tom Hanks produced “4-D” film Beyond All Boundaries. Hanks says viewers will love how the film will draw you into this virtual wartime experience.

The film is shown exclusively at the museum's new Victory Theater, which includes "4-D" elements such as props, simulated winds and shaking seats. Images from Pearl Harbor to the wintry Battle of the Bulge — the final major German offensive against the Allies — are shown on a 120-foot (36-meter)-wide screen.

The film incorporates vintage film footage, animation and sensory effects so audiences can feel the rumbling of tank treads and booming of anti-aircraft fire.

"This is not just a widescreen movie," said Hanks, who narrates the 35-minute film, as well as an introductory video that will be shown as viewers wait to enter the theater. "There's actual things that pop up, actual elements that come into it that put you in the environment."

LEARN THE LINGO:
NEW ORLEANS STYLE
Mirliton (pronounced merl-i-tawn)
What the hell is a Mirliton? Some folks call these vegetable pears or chayote squash, but here in New Orleans, we just call em' mella-ton and eat 'em a lot. The most popular style is stuffed or in a dressing, but you can use them in any recipe the way you might use a regular summer squash. They are really interesting to eat, almost like a watery artichoke heart. They are easy to grow (zone 9 and up). Plan on having lots of them trellised in your garden next spring.

Mirliton... yum!
We call them mella-ton in N'awlins
